TRAINING - IN USE

The recent Winter Storm Emergency in Schuylkill and surrounding Counties saw the activation of many Emergency Agencies working together.

SCART was activated on Thursday Feb. 15th, 2007 at 9:12 P.M. by Schuylkill Co. EMA. We responded to the Pine Grove High School, to set up a temporary shelter, to house and care for the motorists who were stranded when the Interstates 80-81& 78 were closed, and several Boroughs and the State of PA declared a "State of Emergency". The American Red Cross, the Local Fire& EMS departments, National Guard, and School Officials all worked together to provide emergency shelter to over 190 persons, just at the Pine Grove exits.Additional shelters were set up through the county. We took in and cared for five dogs, including an "Assistance Dog" andone cat. We were on the scene until 3:00PM Friday, Feb. 16th. We also assisted at the Ravine exit Truck Stop at 10 PM Friday, where a motorist with several horses in a trailer, were stranded for 3 days. We provided food and supplies to the horses.

All Agencies worked together, and it did work, because of the understanding of the ICS and NIMS Systems - This is why this training is REQUIRED of all CART members.

Thank You!! to all who responded and assisted during this emergency.
